Kelly is a native of Montcalm County, Michigan, born in Carson City, and raised in Sheridan. Her interest in history began at a young age, as her parents were both teachers and her family spent many summers touring historical sites across the United States. Kelly’s interest in local history began in 1998 when she started working at the Flat River Community Library. For many years following, Kelly mentored under Flat River Museum’s former board member Elsie McNiel, who helped foster her love for local history. Kelly has served on the Flat River Historical Society’s board since 2013 and is currently the board’s Vice President. Her focus at the museum is in research and archival preservation.
